When Pretoria East based Helen and Suzette, in their 50’s and 60’s were told they were too old to be employed, door on door closing on them, the very best they could do was to turn entrepreneurial on themselves. The Accessorwise journey took off!
Helen has had many fruitful years in retail and manufacturing, employing several communities. Suzette spent years in the communication profession, among several in contemporary art in Dubai and London.
The idea of an online shop, selling quality and iconic merchandise, thrilled.
“We decided to join forces. It is true that two is better than one. We hope to give new meaning to the African proverb: If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together” says Helen Alpino.
We are very proud to join the Proudly South African online shop arena, as we have adopted the ethos of ‘local is lekker’ by which we hope to put a very positive spin on the state of our nation, generating jobs for skilled artists, potters, craftsmen, natural health SMMEs and the like.
“By supporting SSMEs, we could be paying for a child’s school fees, calm a widow’s fears and put bread on the table in many cases. We would love to showcase more raw local talent, and will certainly be scouting for innovation and creativity from South Africa. Watch this space!” says Suzette Heydenreich.
They are both community builders at heart, not frowning on rolling up their sleeves to get involved in vulnerable and marginalised communities through respectively supporting projects to restore dignity to broken environments.
